Lasagna- Pronounced: luh-zahn-yuh, Spell it by saying it like this: La-sag-na. That's my little english lesson intro for you!
The reason I'm giving you a little lesson on lasagna is because I made homemade lasagna the other day for the first time! I had two different recipes for options on how I could make this dish, but they both had things about them that I liked, so I just decided to do different things that I liked from the recipes and made it my own!
So here's a few pictures of the process and the recipe throughout the steps! If you would like the full recipe, please send me a comment and I will be happy to give it to you! Pretty simple!
Ingredients:
Kara’s Lasagna Recipe
• ¾ of a pound of grand beef (85/15) and ¾ of Italian sausage
• ¾ of a pound of grand beef (85/15) and ¾ of Italian sausage
• 1 tsp of minced garlic flakes seasoning (can use real garlic or minced garlic)
• 1 tsp of chopped onion seasoning
• 25oz can of tomato sauce
• 12 oz can of tomato paste
• I cup of water
• Lasagna noodles (12)
• 23 oz ricotta cheese
• 2 pkgs (5 cups) of shredded low moisture part-skim mozzarella cheese
• A tub of real Grated Parmesan cheese (not the pizza kind)
• ¼ and 1/8 teaspoon and of nutmeg
• ¼ cup of fresh parsley
• 1 egg
Preheat oven to 350 degrees
-First, brown the beef and sausage together with onion and garlic. Once done, drain grease. Add tomato sauce, tomato paste, and cup of water to meat. Season with desired amount of ground pepper. Italian seasoning is optional.
-Second, put 12 noodles to soak in hot tap water for 15 minutes.
-Third, while noodles are soaking, mix ricotta, egg, nutmeg, and parsley together.
-Fourth, take 13x9in glass pan and spread one cup of the meat sauce on bottom of pan. Then lay out 6 lasagna noodles.
-Fifth, on top of the noodles spread out the ricotta mix, then sprinkle 2 cups of mozzarella and then sprinkle ½ of the parmesan cheese.
Me, hard at work sprinkling the cheese! And Jake, my little helper just waiting for one little crumb to fall to the floor!
-Sixth, add another layer of meat sauce, 6 noodles, ricotta and then the mozzarella and parmesan cheeses. Finish with a layer of meat sauce and then top that with a cup of mozzarella cheese.
I know, I'm messy!!
-Seventh, cover pan with foil and cook for 40 minutes, take out of oven, and then cook uncovered for 15 more minutes. Let cool.
-To add some zest to the meal, cut up some French bread with your great bread cutter! Add a little butter and garlic powder to taste!
And here's the finished product!!! YUMMY and CHEESY!! mmmmm.....
Eventhough this is something that I had never made before, homemade that is, I really enjoyed it! So whether or not your a big cook, I strongly suggest that you give it a whirl!! OR have someone else give it a whirl for you! ;)
-Loving Lasagna Kara
