Here is a gyro that is slices of lamb and beef on pita bread with onions, tomatoes, and tzatziki sauce.
That sauce may look a little gross up there on top, but spread it out a little and it's delish!
Here's a couple of pastry items that we tried out.
Finikia: It's a sweet honey cookie with spices, topped with nuts. Reminded me of pumpkin bread! Good!
Baklava: Nuts, butter, and spices in layers of filo pastry, with honey syrup on the top! Also, good! I have relative that makes these! Eh!
Kourambiedes: Butter cookies with toasted almonds with powdered sugar on top! We didn't get one of these at the festival, but my grandma and her cousin who are 1/4 Greek make these! They're pretty good..... for a butter cookie!
Another tid bit: Greeks also shout the word, OPA! A word shouted frequently at the Greek Festival! We weren't for sure what it meant but after a little research it shows that it's a word of cheer or a word used in celebration!
And that concludes my informational sesssion on the Greek Festival! Hey, like I said it was all about the food! I know what you're thinking, Kara's life is so boring that she has to do a whole blog over food!
Loving food, Kara
